fat hands and S-I-E-K-O
yesterday, (i forgot which class), i walked around the classroom while they were finishing the writing portion of the worksheet. as i walked around, i checked to make sure they were doing the work, see if they had any spelling errors, answer questions...blah blah. basically, i was just looking at their papers and their hands to make sure i saw some action.
as i passed by this one girl's desk, her hands caught my eye. i thought my god....those hands look bloated. they looked swollen like, well....marshmallows. or, kind of like how'd you imagine a dead person's hands would look like if their body was found in the water....all bloated looking. i looked at her face and saw that she was a little thick. not obese, not fat....just thick. but, those hands didn't really fit her. weird.....kinda gross.
S-I-E-K-O
this girl has to be one of the most retarded students i've had in the almost two years i've been at this school. well, we seem to be getting more and more "slow" students each year. on the first day of class, the students each made namecards by which the teacher and i can call on them with. i never noticed this girl's name in the 40 class. when it was the 20 class....i noticed her. S-I-E-K-O. funny....i don't think it's supposed to be a unique name. it's probably supposed to be seiko. but, why would she spell her name wrong and not notice it? i asked my teacher if it's supposed to be S-E-I-K-O or S-I-E-K-O.
turns out the retard spelled her own name wrong. it took her about a month to realize this mistake. this girl cannot understand when we explain to her the directions in japanese either. god help her....
okay okay.....i'm being mean. you would be too after 21 months.

do japanese schools have different classes for students with learning disabilities? it's important for those kids to get the extra support they need. thanks goodness for ADA here in the US. but yeah, even the slowest kid knows how to spell one's own name. seems to me that this girl is just careless.
slow kids come to schools that ALTs work out...ha. and, you'd think that after looking at your namecard twice a week for a month you'd realize that something just doesn't look right....
they seem to mix up the dumb kids with the smart kids which leads to the dumb kids being intimidated, the smart kids being frustrated, and the average kids just plain bored because Japanese classes are BORING. For high school, the students have to take entrance exams, so Shannon gets stuck with the dregs. I'm so sorry Shan!
