friday night salary man
friday nights in japan are a peculiar thing. always on cue, drunken salary men can be found staggering red faced, their arms slung over the shoulders of their fellow comrades; japanese rats armed with briefcases. this is their escape from the monotny of their lives. keep in mind, it is only 8pm.
i have many odd friday night salary man stories. as i walked to the bus station platform at the trainstation around 10pm, i noticed a man passed out in the corner inside the station. his face was a disgusting shade of green and he lay in his own vomit. i walked over to make sure he was breathing.....he was. well, at least he was on his side so he couldn't choke on own vomit.
often time if you're walking around town on friday night, you can find splatters of vomit. yum.
last friday, i walked past ampm towards where my bike was parked. once again, a man was passed out by a garbage can. two other teenage boys were peering over him and said, "well, he's breathing so he must be okay." so, i continued on.
the one that tops the cake is my bus story. i caught the last bus home which was around 10:50pm. i sat in the second seat on the very left. if you know japanese buses, usually one side in the front has single person seats. i was in one of those. in front of me sat mr. salary man. he REAKED of alcohol. as our journey began, i noticed that the bus's movements seemed to not agree with his condition. he didn't look so hot. he gagged. he heaved a couple of times. the third time, his mouth filled up with vomit. he struggled to open the window but managed to only open it about 3 inches. it turns out, windows in buses only open about that much on the bottom to prevent injury. they open more from the top down. not bottom up. his vomit splattered all over the window, him, and the seat. the smell was fucking disgusting. i would've helped him open the window had i not been trying to keep my own dinner down. monkey see monkey do, you know? he tried to play it off and shut the window as if nothing happened. the bus began to reak of vomit. the busdriver noticed that he had thrown up....afterall, this man was in the front seat. he instructed the man to keep the window open. the man ended up getting off at the same stop as me because that episode sobered him up quick and he was embarrassed.
to this day, i NEVER sit in the front seat of the bus on the very left side.
the end.

Yeah, I can't sit in the front of a bus either, but that's because where I live it's still segregated. Hapas to the back of the bus they say. When will people realize that we're people too?
gross! i'm make sure to carry plenty of handi-wipes and a face mask if i ever visit japan.
