an ode to grace

many of you people from back home have heard me talk about my friends here in japan. especially during my second year in japan, i have created a unique bond with these girls. these are my friends for life. i have been so fortunate to be in the company of such strong, independent, extremeley intellecutual, and beautiful young women. i am so blessed. we all have our respective crews back home as well. But, no one from back home can really relate to us, or what we experienced whilst living abroad.

i am so thankful for all of these women being in my life. last year, my closest friend in japan was a girl named beth. she still is one of my closest friends, but she's engaged and her focus went elsewhere and understandably. then, i became very close to grace, ruth, alice, and jenni more this year. but, especially grace. we actually met in san francsico at the JET orientation. she was also my roommate in tokyo. i distinctly remember the day when we met too.

i have had the pleasure of watching this young girl blossom into a beautiful woman. grace is the only person that can laugh heartily at my dorkiness. only she can appreciate the meaning behind "wiener shnitzel," or my constant talks about my shitting habits. she's one of the nicest, kindest person that i know. (excuse the bad grammar) she would do ANYTHING for a friend. because some of the other girls live further away, have boyfriends or fiancees, etc, she and i bonded. we can relate to each other about being the asian american wall flowers of japan. even though she is younger than me, i admire and look up to her for many things. because of grace, i have been able to start this blog and enter this CRAZY WORLD that i had NO IDEA existed!

anyway, enough mushy stuff. grace, please don't write an ode to me cuz you feel you have to since i just wrote a sappy sap blog about my love for you. sometimes, some people just need to be recognized for how special they are, and this is my ode to you! besides...you know a lot of dirty secrets about me....if i'm not nice to you, you can ruin my life. or...i can just kill you.....

Wow Shan. I don't deserve such praise. We need to stick together in order to survive life in this fucked-up country and I'm just as fortunate to have you as a friend. I LOVE YOU TOO SHANNON!!!!

apparently someone forgot what ode means:

ode:

Noun
1. A lyric poem of some length, usually of a serious or meditative nature and having an elevated style and formal stanzaic structure. 2. a. A choric song of classical Greece, often accompanied by a dance and performed at a public festival or as part of a drama. b. A classical Greek poem modeled on the choric ode and usually having a three-part structure consisting of a strophe, an antistrophe, and an epode.

yes i'm an asshole.

I'm just kidding around though.

wow an "ode" to somebody. From what you describe of Grace, it seems like a person that is deserving of and long overdue for an ode.
