yesterday, one of my kids, esha, was sad because hanna said that she didn't want to be her friend. little girls....such bullies. at this age, it is vital to teach these children proper communication skills and express their feelings to one another. very different from japan, eh?

here's the conversation, which occurred during cleanup time:

me while holding esha's hand and acting as mediator: hanna, esha has something she'd like to tell you.
(esha isn't saying anything)
me: how does it make you feel that hanna said that?
esha: i feel sad.
me: what would you like to happen?
esha: i want hanna to be my friend.
me: then, you need to tell her that.
esha (looking at hanna): i want to be your friend.
hanna: okay...but, i'm sweaty right now.

classic.

it makes one feel sad when someone doesn't want to be their friend, no? i feel bummed out. but, as i've become older, i've realized that some friendships just cannot remain, or cannot even be formed. it honestly saddens me.

i just wanted to be friends.

i've also come to realize that when one gets married, many of these friendships just cannot exist out of respect for your partner. it's not like when you were just boyfriend and girlfriend and you can hide that shit and classify it as a "white lie." better to avoid the potential drama and just make it non-existant...like it was just a dream.

i don't like that and it bums me out. it bums me out when someone CAN'T be my friend...or chooses not to be.

but, if you love your partner, you know it's for the best. sometimes what's good for you really sucks shit....like those stinky chinese medicine balls that you take when you have a tummy ache.

serious relationships and marriage don't look so appealing to me anymore. i just want to get my career started. WHICH IS??!!

nothing is appealing to me anymore. i wish i felt inspiration, motivation, joy.

i need to refocus. only 3 more months until my last international competition...

mood: numb
background music: mariah carey-shake it off (my anthem since returning home A YEAR AGO)

I've accepted the fact, a very long time ago, that I cannot be friends with just anybody. I can be friendly, and we can all shoot the breeze together, but TRUE friendships are rare.

If a friend of mine chooses not be my friend, then he/she was not a very good friend in the first place, and it's not worth my time or energy to remain friends with that person.
