RIP MJ
you know, there seems to be way more important issues to bring the world to a standstill than the death of one individual who was famous for inventing the moonwalk.
a revolution is possible in iran. suicide bombings occur in iraq all the friggin time still. people are still starving in africa. children are still sold into sexual slavery. so, what's all the fuss about?
why the fuck do we care?
i suppose for those of us who grew up trying to moonwalk on our kitchen floors (cuz it was more condusive to the sliding effect) and grabbing our crotchs with one hand and the other in the air whilst screaming "Wooo!" michael's death signifies the end of an era...of our era. our generation is aging and we're reminded of our impending mortality. He reminded us of our childhoods.
the other thing is, music and a flat out magical performer gives us a break from the harsh reality that our world sucks...life sucks....but, there is happiness in art, music, dancing, and connecting with one another through these mediums. the joy of expressing oneself through song and moving your body because your soul directs you to....we are reminded of the pure energy we are as humans.
i never knew the guy, i thought he was a weirdo, but i appreciated his art and ability to connect with us through his craft. i am genuinely sad he is gone...as i will be sad when the last beatle is dead.
in your honor, michael, i shall make sure my child knows how to do the moonwalk.
