squirrels and eggs

last week, while the kids were outside playing, ryan and brian came running shouting, "shannon! shannon! you've gotta see this! it's a baby squirrel!!"

since we have a whole bunch of squirrel nests in the park where we play at, i was curious to see a baby squirrel since i had never seen one before. i never even knew squirrels built nests. (see previous entry last month for this revelation)

we walked quietly towards the tree so as not to scare our suburban critter.

"look! it's there!" ryan whispered excitedly.

i looked and couldn't see anything but an ADULT squirrel, albeit a smaller one, crouching on a branch, lying still so as not to bring more attention to itself. kinda like a if i don't move they won't see me approach.

"you mean THAT one?" i asked the kids.

"yeah!"

"uh...i think that's an adult squirrel, guys."

"oh...." nonetheless, we continued to spy on it. it still didn't move.

"i think it's laying eggs." brian whispers.

hahahahaha...i couldn't help but laugh at loud at that one.
