i've always believed that long distance running is not a sport. it is absolute torture. it is masochistic. who in the hell wants to run 26 miles? WHY WHY WHY?!!

so, even though i hate running with a passion, i've started to run more for the cardio part of my workout. i've actually come to enjoy running SHORT distances....like 3-5 miles. that's not so bad. but, keep in mind that i run at about a high 8-9 minute mile pace. so, i can run 3 miles in a little less than 30 minutes. on a good day, maybe 25 minutes.

naturally, i want to challenge myself. being the competitive person that i am, i want to be able to run 3 miles in 20 minutes. so, this train of thought got me to thinking of marathons. i was asked to participate in a half marathon, and i said HELL NO.

however, i would love to go watch to see how the kenyans and the other champions run. i'm sure it is ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE to see these people run. they probably glide. these people can run a full marathon (26 miles...or something like that) at a 4-something minute mile pace THE WHOLE FUCKING TIME. can you imagine running that fast for the whole entire 26 miles??!! it just doesn't seem humanly possible. wow....that's all i can say.

and, people wonder how a 28 year old dude died running at the olympic marathon trials recently. man....cuz it just doesn't seem right that we could put our bodies through so much goddamn stress!! but, some people can!! that is AMAZING!! man....they're the real life superheroes. it trips me out...

sigh....i hate running...

Well history does show that the first person to run a marathon was a greek. He died upon delivering news of the greek victory at the Battle of Marathon.

Running is tough. I think my whole time in high school, I only managed to finish one three-mile race in under 21 minutes. But in my defense, cross country races all include HILLS. evil evil hills.

You can do it, Shan! I'm gonna start jogging again, too.
