snowboarding
alriiiiiight. my left knee seems to be a bit swollen, and my arms hurt like hell for bracing my falls. i wonder.....perhaps i'm just not meant to snowboard?
okay, so we got back from Nagano last night VERY late because of traffic. the busride was terrible. we arrived there on saturday afternoon. grace was kind enough to teach me the basics and basically babysat me. what sucks is that out of my group of friends, i am the only ultra beginner. don't want to hold them back, you know? but, this is a girl who has NEVER strapped her feet onto a long board that's supposed to somehow slide down a mountain using a combination of balance, fearlessness, and craziness to keep from falling on your ass and face planting in the snow.
after all the stories that i heard, they were all true. i thought that they could never happen to me. but, i had snow ALL UP MY BACK AND IN MY PANTS. i hit the snow so hard the first day that twice, my goggles and beanie just flew off my head. the second time, i distinctly heard an "uuuuumph" escape my lips and the wind get knocked out of me. all the while, i wondered, "how the fuck do people do this?" well......then, grace and i realized that i am goofy. i'm not sure if i'm using that word right. basically, i need my right foot forward. maybe it's cuz of kendo? i dunno. so, we went down the lifts about 3 times before the lifts closed to get ready for night skiing. or boarding. whatever. keep in mind....i've only gone down a lift on a fucking snowboard a total of 3 times now.
well, when we went night boarding, i felt like i was starting all over again. however, my friend alice taught me how to turn! i was ecstatic! i wanted to cry. the only thing that sucked was that on the second day, i was by myself. i mean, i don't want to hold anyone else back because they're all better than me. of course they wouldn't want to hang around the easy bunny slopes with me. so, i had to go at it by myself. since i'm one that's not too keen on kicking it by myself, i sat in the lodge for days. when i finally got motivated to get up and stop sulking, i realized that i could only go boarding for a half day. so, i sucked it up and went by myself a couple of times down. basically, in total, i've only been on a snowboard for about 5 hours. i'm gonna eat shit when we go to hokkaido. i'm scared again.
everyday, i fantasize about throwing something at my supervisor while she runs around everywhere. if only....

Dude, you don't give yourself enought credit. You'll be fine in Hokkaido. The snow is soft and cushiony! Nagano was hella icy that weekend! Just rest easy. I know I'm going to enjoy a couple of weekends off. We all deserve it!
