the festival and the fear factor challenge

this week is the cultural festival. whooooo hoooo!!! no lessons! right on. ain't nothing wrong with that. i wish i had my digi cam so i could take pics and post them, but.....i sat on it in thailand and broke it. 'bout to get a new one soon!

oh...two guys on one of those loud bikes just came in through the gate and revved their engines and rode around two laps in the lot and left. i just don't get the point of it.

um.....i don't understand many things. for one instance, my students are dumber than amoebas, but can coordinate and choreograph a dance routine with formations and everything for 40 members in their class. interesting.

they make their own costumes and everything. that's one of the good things about this collective unit. you could tell that each class worked so hard on their perfomances to get it down right. that was kind of touching to see the end result. i saw them practicing yesterday. i went to the language lab after school to wait for two girls. i stood by the window and watched the 3rd year students practice. as they were congregating for their dress rehearsal, one really cute girl yelled, "reika-sensei!!" to get my attention so that i would wave to her. that was cute. after they all gathered, they turned on the tape recorder and began to practice. ALL 40 OF THEM. that kind of cohesiveness is actually quite special.

random thought: so, the classes that perform and wear costumes get to wear makeup. it's crazy. a chance to see either their individuality or conformity. well, that can be debatable. they're supposed to be high schoolers and they look pretty scandalous in their make up and done up hair and skimpy outfits. it's crazy. i wish i had pictures.

THE DANCER

class 2C did a dance number. i feel a particular bond with the second year students because i had them last year. they divirginized me, so to speak.

maki. she looks like a goddamn boy. she was loud, but was a good kid. she's a good dancer. who would have ever thought. this girl was pretty fresh! danced to usher's "yeah" and did some break dancing. i was really impressed. i gotta get a picture with her....

IS THAT HIM?!

remember atsushi? fucked up boy in 1G? the cry baby in the baseball club? well, the baseball club did a little dance number also. they wore stupid costumes and everything. there in the front row was atsushi, doing it with them in a weird french maid top costume. who would have ever thought? mr. nishizuka, the "eddie the echo" guy i teach with was sitting next to me. i said, "is that atsushi?"
"yeah. very surprising, isn't it?" he responded.
crazy shit.

FEAR FACTOR

oh, i had to sing the carpenter's song once again. this was a fear factor challenge for me. i don't sing. if you know me, you know that I DON'T SING. i had to sing "top of the world" with another english teacher in front of all 920-something students. fun. well, i'm glad that it's over.

ROCK AND ROLL STAR

that is a garage band type club at our school. they're alright. individually, not so bad. so, the drummer. he's a skinny kid wearing a t-shirt with the sleeves cut off that read "ROCK AND ROLL". the teacher behind me gasped and said to me, "do you know Ryouta from 3G?"
no, i don't know the kid. he's a third year student in G class.
"he's a really quiet and shy kid," she continued.

dude...the kid was JAMMIN on the drums. HE WAS TIGHT. his whole body was into it. his arms, his hands, his legs, his feet, his head, his mind, and his heart. it was CRAZY. this kid was awesome. he was really into it. i wish i had taken his picture too.....

alright. i think that's about it. sorry, nothing too bad to say...yet
