watch what you say
charlotte used to be one of my kids when i worked at the center 3 years ago. amazingly enough, she remembered me. i remembered her parents. her dad is this huge tall dude that was a bit of a prick. he only became nice to me because i didn't have him sign in when he picked up charlotte late one time, saving him an extra late fee. anyhoo, i noticed that only her dad would come to pick her up since i started working here on monday. i asked her when her mommy would come to pick her up, and she replied, "my parents are divorced." charlotte's 5 now. it's amazing how much kids know and comprehend.
today, i asked her when or if her mom ever comes to pick her up, only because i hadn't seen her since i've been rehired and wanted to say hello. charlotte replied, "i told you they're divorced, remember?" apparently, the mom gets them on the weekends. or maybe her mom drops her off and her dad picks her up. i dunno. she's five. i can't expect her to explain everything properly to me. so, i decided to take it a step further because i wanted to know if her parents were divorced when charlotte was in my room 3 years ago. so, i asked her when her parents divorced. she answered, "when mommy started yelling at daddy."
ouch. no family can escape dysfunction, eh?
if any of you have kids or plan to, watch out, cuz they will tell their teachers like me your dirty little secrets. for example, i had a little girl named shelby 3 years ago who saw a hole in the t-shirt i was wearing and said, "my daddy has holes in his underwear like that." niiiiiiiiice.
but, then again, i know it goes both ways and the kids probably go home and tell their parents the latest scoop on my love life that i just disclosed to my co-worker. just can't win, can you?

Kids say the darnest (and most truthful) things. Nothing more brutal than the honesty of children. But their stories do make for interesting gossip, don't they?
haha..that's funny. kids are truthful until they're in middle school. then they lie all the time.
