holy calamity!

monday, sept 6 2004. oh, my goodness.....yesterday was just the weirdest day ever. i was to meet jenni, ruth, and grace to go to nagoya. of course, i miss my bus and i end up missing the same train as all them. so, as i was going up the escalator to the platform, this white guy breaks neck to take a look at me. gross guy...skinny, balding, bad style. anyhow, so i end up sitting across from this guy and his japanese lady friend, who apparently can speak english. i love blending in with this society because that means i can eavesdrop!! i know..it's so bad. but, i love listening to the gaijin talk shit. i learned this guy's whole life story for the 30 minutes it took to get up to nagoya. from what i gathered, i'm assuming he must be a JET or another private company english teacher. he's from the states. he was talking about getting married at 28 and being 4 years off. using my mathematical brain, he must be 24. i thought he was in his 30s!! my goodness....some caucasians certainly do not age well. anyhow, i entertained myself for 30 minutes listening to this guy talk about how awful august was, and how he wants to find a wife here in japan, and philosophizing about bull shit. this guy must've been in the dumps cuz he sounded depressing. well, interesting train ride.
so, i met the girls in nagoya. we had lunch, and took the subway to sakae. it was super muggy but raining. i hate that....i felt so sticky and gross. i ended up buying yet another pair of kicks and some other stuff. grace ended up leaving earlier than us. she called my cellphone to tell us that the trains were shut down. wtf? just cuz of the rain? we had no idea what was going on. so, we decided to take our time making our way back to the nagoya station. once we got there, apparently, there was quite a big earthquake. everything was CRAZY down there in the station. we had NO IDEA what was going on and why all the people were trying to cram themselves onto the train. well, we got on the train and luckily, we were able to sit. the trainride home should only take 30 minutes, but it was taking DAYS for some reason. it was either the typhoon coming, or an earthquake. we had no idea.
when i finally got home more than an hour later, i had to wait for the bus. i got to my apartment and takeru was waiting for me right at the door and got out. i took him back in, and he was just acting CRAZY for the rest of the night. i had no idea what was up with him. well, i got ready for bed and ended up crashing around 10:30-11. i was in a nice slumber when things started shaking. sometimes, the apartment shakes due to wind or a truck passing by. but, the shaking wouldn't stop! i stayed in bed for a couple more seconds, but it STILL DIDN'T STOP! takeru jumped up from sleeping with me and went to hide in his special hiding place. dude...it's been years since i've had to duck and cover! so, i got up and stood in the doorway with my arms holding the frame to brace myself. the shaking must've been bout 20 seconds or so. it was LONG. i was so scared.

okay, correction. after finishing my first three lessons of the second term this year, apparently, the shaking lasted more than a minute. it was some scary shit. now that i've lost my zest to talk about the earthquake, i shall go. until next time.
